German elections: Digihumanism unveils massive pro-AfD reverse censorship & bot-driven amplification on X

Read Digihumanism's report on the online manipulation of German elections orchestrated on X in favour of the AfD, available here.

Through the support of foreign accounts on X, the Alternative für Deutschland (AFD) party has gained an overwhelming visibility advantage compared to other German political parties.

👉 The strategy?

Reverse censorship & persistent artificial amplification of content, either pro-AfD or against other political parties, biaising the German elections

👉 The remedy?

🔥🔥🔥 Enforce the Digital Services Act!

Digihumanism calls on the European Commission to adopt the following measures due to the gravity and urgency of the situation:

⌛️ suspend X immediately and until two weeks after the elections

🎯 apply periodic penalties equivalent to 5% of the average daily worldwide turnover for each day of delay in complying with the interim measures

📛 adopt promptly a non-compliance decision and impose on X a fine equating 6% of their 2024 total world turnover

✅ activate the DSA crisis response mechanism

✅ ensure algorithmic transparency and full access to X’s data

👉 The key point:

Bots do not have freedom of expression.” recalls Karine Caunes, Digihumanism Executive Director.

It is the freedom of expression, thought and information of German citizens which are under threat and so is democracy.

There is no democracy without protection for the fundamental rights which support it.

Democracy disappears when there is a manifest breach of equality of opportunities among the candidates to an election.
